Over the last couple of years, Apple has begun transitioning processors in Mac computers from Intel to Apple silicon, including the M1 and the recently announced M2 processor families.
Previously, if you were using one of the newer M1 Apple devices, you had to run Cypress using Intel emulation with Rosetta 2, Apple's translation layer.
We want you to have the best performance, speed, and reliability possible if you're running Cypress tests on Apple devices. We're happy to announce that Cypress now has native support for Apple silicon, including M1 and M2 Macs.
We now ship native Apple silicon builds, improving efficiency for everything you do in Cypress. In fact, we found that compared to Cypress in Rosetta,
- Running tests in Electron (
cypress run) is 2.5 times faster, and running tests in Chrome is slightly improved. - The time taken to open the Cypress app (
cypress open) has decreased by 70%.
